Automotive Manufacturing 2009 repeated its history of success as the marketplace for Asean’s automotive parts manufacturing community.  The exhibition served as a showcase of leading-edge production technology and innovative solutions for manufacturing environment. The size of the over 32,000 visitors showed that business confidence in the industrial sector has picked up and manufacturers are planning again of investing in new machinery and equipment. 

At the opening ceremony, Minister of Industry Charnchai Chairungruang indicated in his keynote speech the government’s support for the automotive and electronics the two most important industries in the region.  Thailand is the world’s 14th largest automobile manufacturer with 240,000 skilled workers and 2,300 automotive parts suppliers. This has led to exports worth 500,000 million baht. Regarding the Show, he remarked “These exhibitions are the true catalysts of manufacturing and purchasing.  I have talked to our overseas partners and it is in line with the government policy to support the industry.”

The Prototype Hydrogen Car Showcase attracted a large crowd of visitors who would like to take a look at what the future of automobile. The onsite seminars, conferences and technology presentation helped delegates to spark new ideas on how to improve industrial competiveness and productivity.

The highlighted conference “Automotive and Electronics Summit 2009: Thailand and Asean as Automotive and Electronic Hubs, Hope or Hoax” drew key speakers from the Board of Investment, Jetro, Toyota, BMW and Mercedes Benz to discuss the direction of Thailand’s Automotive Industry. The consensus is that Asean is already a hub for automotive and electronics with major investments in both industries in several countries of Asean and on-going additional investments. By 2014 Thailand will be in the top-10 automobile manufacturers of the world.  On the second day of the Summit, industry leaders attended industry focused forums on plastics and rubber; mold and die; and automotive manufacturing and automation where new ideas and technologies were offered for the audience to ponder over. 

Securing many successes in terms of visitors and space booking, Automotive Manufacturing 2010 hit a new record with over 70% of exhibition space for 2010 edition were already taken.
